Special Flight Permit Definition

A Special Flight Permit refers to an authorization issued by aviation authorities to an aircraft that does not meet airworthiness requirements, but is capable of safe flight. This permit allows the aircraft to conduct specific flights, such as maintenance, repair, demonstration, evacuation from danger, manufacturer flight tests or buyer delivery. The term “Special Flight Permit” is also known as a “Ferry Permit”. It is essential to note that the authority issuing the permit sets strict guidelines on the conditions under which the aircraft may fly, the duration and destination of the flight, and any other specific requirements. Therefore, special flight permits ensure that the safety of passengers, crew, and people on the ground is upheld even if the aircraft is not fully compliant with the airworthiness requirements.
