Supercharger

« Back to Glossary Index

Definition of Supercharger: An air compressor that utilizes either engine or exhaust power to increase the pressure and density of the induction air, thereby allowing the engine to generate higher levels of power than a naturally-aspirated engine of the same size and configuration. Superchargers optimize the performance of internal combustion engines by forcing more air into the cylinders, which results in more efficient fuel combustion and increased horsepower. They are commonly used in high-performance vehicles such as sports cars and race cars, as well as in heavy-duty trucks and aircraft engines.
