TWEB: An Introduction to Transcribed Weather Broadcasts

Transcribed Weather Broadcast, commonly referenced as TWEB, refers to an essential communication tool that provides pilots with weather information for their intended flight route. TWEB is a written transcript of a specific radio frequency transmission that is used to provide weather information to pilots.

As a critical component of aviation safety, TWEBs are typically issued by Flight Service Stations (FSS) and cover all aviation weather information, including current weather conditions, graphical representations of surface observations, upper-air conditions, and significant weather conditions. These reports are transmitted through a dedicated frequency and are captured in real-time by FSS staff that compiles them into a TWEB transcript.

Pilots use TWEB to plan their flights and make informed decisions about possible weather hazards during their journeys. TWEBs are also exceptionally useful in situations where radio communication is limited, as pilots can request a TWEB via radio, which is subsequently transmitted to their aircraft.

In conclusion, TWEB is a critical communication tool that delivers timely and accurate weather information to pilots to facilitate safe flights.
