Definition of V1

V1 is a critical safety speed during the takeoff phase of an aircraft. It is the speed at which, in case of an engine failure, the pilot must decide whether to abort the takeoff and bring the aircraft to a stop on the runway or continue with the takeoff. At V1, the aircraft has reached a speed beyond which it cannot stop safely on the runway, so the decision to continue or abort must be made quickly. V1 is calculated based on a variety of factors such as runway length, aircraft weight, and temperature. A careful consideration and knowledge of V1 is crucial for the safety of all aircraft operations.
