VLE

« Back to Glossary Index

VLE (Velocity Limitation Extension) is the maximum safe flying speed for an aircraft with its landing gear extended. This is an important consideration during a flight, particularly when an aircraft must maintain its landing gear down during takeoff or landing. VLE is a critical limit, as exceeding this speed could cause damage to the landing gear or even lead to a potentially disastrous accident. VLE is different for each aircraft, determined by specific factors such as its weight and design. Therefore, pilots must be knowledgeable of the VLE for the aircraft they are operating and operate within this limitation. By adhering to the VLE, pilots can ensure safe and uneventful takeoff and landing operations.
