Definition of VOT

A VOT (VHF Omni-directional Range Test) ensures the accuracy of a VOR (VHF Omni-directional Range) by transmitting a signal at specific angles around the compass rose and allowing pilots to verify their instruments. This helps pilots to know that their VOR receiver is functioning correctly and that their navigation will be accurate. The VOT signal is typically transmitted on a specific frequency, with instructions for pilots to tune their receivers accordingly. The VOT signal may also be used to test the accuracy of other navigation equipment aboard an aircraft.
