Wind Direction Indicators

Wind Direction Indicators are visual reference devices that include a variety of tools such as wind socks, wind tees, or tetrahedrons. These indicators are used to determine the direction of the wind and which runway should be utilized during takeoff and landing. The wind sock is a cone-shaped device that is typically made of fabric and mounted on a pole. It is designed to align with the wind direction and show the pilot the direction of the wind. The wind tee is similar to the wind sock but has a more complex design that consists of a pipe and a vane. The tetrahedron is a more advanced wind direction indicator that can show both the direction and speed of the wind. It consists of four vertical vanes that are aligned with the four cardinal directions. When these indicators are used appropriately, the pilot can make safer and more informed decisions about their flight.
