Wingtip vortices

« Back to Glossary Index

Wingtip Vortices:

These are rotating air currents that emerge at the wing tips when an airplane generates lift during flight. The strength of the turbulence produced by these vortices is dependent on factors like the speed, weight, and configuration of the aircraft. They are also known as wake turbulence. In certain instances, the vortices created by larger aircraft can pose a significant danger to smaller aircraft.
