World Aeronautical Chart (WAC)

A World Aeronautical Chart (WAC) is a highly detailed map specifically designed for visual navigation by high speed aircraft. The WAC is drawn to a scale of 1:1,000,000 and provides a complete overview of the airspace, terrain, and geographical features of a designated area. It is a valuable tool for initial flight planning for both fast and slow aircraft, as it covers a much larger area than a Sectional Aeronautical Chart.

WACs are printed on a standard size sheet and provide a wealth of information such as airports, airways, navaids, obstructions, and other terrain features. These maps are updated periodically to ensure up-to-date information on airspace designations, restricted airspace, and other changes affecting navigation and flight safety.

Pilots can use a WAC to gain a broader understanding of the surrounding airspace and terrain, identify potential navigational hazards, and plan the most efficient routes. In addition, WACs are also helpful in search and rescue operations and monitoring of airspace activities.

In summary, the World Aeronautical Chart (WAC) is an essential tool for safe and efficient navigation by aircraft. It offers a complete overview of the surrounding airspace, terrain, and geographical features and is a valuable asset for both visual navigation and initial flight planning.
