ALSApproach Lighting System

ALS, or Approach Lighting System, is a lighting system that provides visual guidance to pilots during approach and landing. It is designed to help pilots maintain the correct glide path and align the aircraft with the runway. The ALS consists of a series of lights that are positioned along the approach path, starting from an initial fix or threshold and extending to the runway. These lights come in a variety of colors, patterns, and brightness levels, and are controlled by the airport’s air traffic control tower. ALS also includes runway end identifier lights (REILs) and touchdown zone lights (TDZLs) to provide additional guidance for pilots. The approach lighting system is an essential part of airport infrastructure that ensures safe and efficient landings for commercial and private flights.
