Automatic Direction Finder (ADF): A radio navigation system utilized to determine the direction of a fixed beacon or radio station in the Low Frequency (LF) or Medium Frequency (MF) bandwidth. The ADF utilizes a directional antenna and automatic tuning technology to provide pilots with real-time directional guidance. The aircraft’s bearing to a radio station is automatically indicated on the navigation equipment installed on the aircraft. The ADF is also known as Direction Finding or DF.
