Course Deviation Indicator

The Course Deviation Indicator (CDI), also known as the “needle” on the VOR indicator, is a navigation instrument that indicates the position of the aircraft in relation to the desired radial. The CDI shows whether the aircraft is to the right or left of the intended course, providing pilots with information to make necessary corrections to maintain the correct course. The CDI presents a graphical display of the aircraft’s position relative to the VOR station by means of a needle that moves left or right according to the direction the aircraft is traveling in relation to the desired course. The CDI is an essential tool for pilots, as it helps to ensure safe and accurate navigation in all weather conditions.
