FAF: Final Approach Fix

The FAF, or Final Approach Fix, is a navigation point used in aviation to indicate the boundary between the intermediate and final segments of an instrument approach procedure. It is the last point on an approach procedure before the aircraft reaches the airport and begins its descent for landing. It is typically marked on aeronautical charts with a lightning bolt symbol and is often equipped with electronic navigation aids such as a VOR or GPS. Pilots use the FAF to ensure they are on the correct track and altitude for a safe approach and landing. It is a critical point in the approach process, requiring precise navigation skills and situational awareness. Accurately identifying and following the FAF is essential for a successful instrument approach and landing.
