Definition of IAP

Instrument Approach Procedures (IAP) refer to the prescribed methods and processes that pilots must follow when flying aircrafts during the approach and landing phases. These procedures include a mixture of techniques and technologies, such as navigation aids and visual cues, which are aimed at ensuring that the pilots navigate their aircrafts safely from the cruising altitude to the airfield. An IAP includes a series of steps, such as the descent path, approach course, minimum descent altitude, and missed approach procedures, which must be followed in sequence. The IAP provides pilots with the necessary parameters and data to navigate their aircraft, particularly when visibility is limited or weather conditions are challenging. IAPs enhance safety during aviation operations, and adherence to instrument approach procedures is a critical part of ensuring safe operations.
