LMM

« Back to Glossary Index

LMM (Locator Middle Marker): A radio beacon located near the middle of the runway that provides pilots with information about their distance from the runway and their approach angle. The LMM is part of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and is used to guide pilots during the final stages of their approach to landing. As the aircraft approaches the LMM, the pilot will hear a tone in their headset or see a light on the instrument panel, indicating that they are at the correct altitude and heading for a safe landing. The LMM is a critical component of airport safety and helps ensure that airplanes land safely and efficiently.
