Locator Middle Marker

The Locator Middle Marker (LMM) refers to a type of non-directional radio beacon (NDB) compass locator that is placed in the same location as a Middle Marker (MM).

An NDB is a radio beacon that transmits a radio signal in all directions and is used as a navigation aid for aircraft. It does not provide directional information, but rather allows the pilot to determine their position relative to the beacon.

A Middle Marker, on the other hand, is a navigational aid used during the approach and landing phase of a flight. It is located on the runway’s centerline and helps pilots to determine the aircraft’s position and approach slope during instrument landing system (ILS) approaches.

By combining the functionality of an NDB compass locator with a Middle Marker, the LMM provides an even more precise navigational aid for pilots during their approach and landing. The LMM enables pilots to determine their position in relation to the airport and runway, allowing for a smoother and safer landing.

Overall, the Locator Middle Marker is a crucial component of the navigational infrastructure that supports safe and efficient air travel.
