Definition of Medium Helicopter

A medium helicopter is an aircraft with a certified gross weight ranging from 6,000 to 12,500 pounds. It is typically designed for transportation, search and rescue missions, and other applications that require a greater payload capacity than a light helicopter but a smaller physical footprint than a heavy-lift helicopter.

Medium helicopters are often used in both civilian and military operations for their versatility and adaptability. They can transport up to 15 passengers or a combination of passengers and cargo, making them ideal for aerial work missions such as moving equipment, supplies, or personnel to remote locations. Additionally, their size and agility make them suitable for performing medical evacuation or rescue operations in difficult terrain or congested urban areas.

Medium helicopters are known for their reliability, ease of maintenance, and endurance. They are equipped with advanced avionics, communication systems, and safety features that make them capable of operating in a range of weather conditions and environments. Some of the most popular models of medium helicopters include the Bell 412, Eurocopter AS365, and Sikorsky S-76.
