Movable Slat

Movable slat refers to an additional airfoil that is present on the leading edge of an airplane’s wing. It serves as a crucial aerodynamic device that is capable of providing significant advantages during takeoff, landing, and maneuvering. This auxiliary component is typically retracted during regular flight operations, but it extends during high angles of attack. Its primary function is to permit the airflow to continue smoothly over the upper surface of the wing, thereby delaying the boundary layer separation and reducing drag. The movable slat’s ability to alter the wing’s geometry enables it to adjust the wing’s angle of incidence, allowing the aircraft to fly safely and efficiently at lower speeds. Its flexibility in adapting to the angle of attack makes it an indispensable component of modern aircraft.
