Definition of “Port”
Port refers to a designated area where a ship docks, loads or unloads cargo and passengers, or takes on supplies. It can be a natural harbour or a specially constructed one, typically accompanied by jetties, piers, buoys, and other navigational aids. Besides, port can define a place that is visited by cruise ships as a part of their travel itinerary.
In the context of aircraft, the term port refers to the left-hand side of the aircraft when facing the front. An aeroplane’s port wing is identified by a red light on its underside, which serves as a navigational aid.
