Radio Magnetic Indicator (RMI)

The Radio Magnetic Indicator (RMI) is an essential electronic navigation instrument used in aviation. It integrates a magnetic compass with an Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) or Very High-Frequency Omnidirectional Range (VOR) to provide accurate directional information to pilots. The RMI card or faceplate acts as a gyro-stabilized magnetic compass, accurately displaying the magnetic heading the aircraft is flying. The integration between the magnetic compass and the ADF or VOR ensures that pilots can easily determine their aircraft’s position in relation to the navigational aids. The RMI provides critical directional information for pilots in various weather conditions, including low visibility. It is an important instrument that enhances situational awareness and flight safety during navigation.
