Definition of SDF:

Simplified Directional Facility, also known as SDF, is a radio navigation aid used for aircraft to aid in the approach and landing phase of a flight. It operates on the frequency band of 90-110 MHz and provides pilots with directional guidance towards the runway. SDF is commonly used in situations where visibility is limited or when the aircraft is flying through thick clouds or fog. The facility broadcasts a signal that indicates the angle of the intended approach path, which pilots use to align the aircraft with the runway centerline. Unlike other navigation aids, SDF only provides horizontal guidance and does not give altitude information. SDF offers a high degree of accuracy in determining aircraft position, making it a valuable tool for pilots during critical phases of flight.
