VNO

« Back to Glossary Index

What is VNO?

VNO refers to the maximum structural cruising speed that an aircraft can safely fly at without causing damage to the airframe. It is typically indicated by a red line on the airspeed indicator and must not be exceeded except in smooth air conditions. The upper limit of the green arc on the airspeed indicator indicates the maximum speed at which the aircraft can be flown without overstressing the wings or other parts of the structure. It is essential for pilots to be familiar with the VNO of their aircraft as exceeding this speed can lead to structural damage and compromise flight safety. Therefore, pilots must always adhere to the VNO limitations specified by the aircraft manufacturer and maintain a watchful eye on the airspeed indicator.
