Visual Descent Point (VDP) is a navigation procedure used in aviation to determine the point at which an aircraft should transition from instrument-based flying to visual flying during an approach to landing. The VDP is calculated based on the aircraft’s altitude, approach speed, descent rate, and the height of obstacles in the flight path. It provides pilots with a visual reference point in relation to the runway to ensure a safe and accurate landing. The VDP is typically displayed on an Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach chart or a global navigation satellite system display in the cockpit of the aircraft.
